Credit Repair: Fact or Fiction?
They're literally all over the place. On the web, newspapers, magazines you name it, they're there. The ads sell books, systems and so called "SECRETS" to help you fix your credit. One of my favorites is this one:
"Smash your debts and wipe your bad credit with just 2 Magic Letters"
Or how about this one:
"My credit score jumped from 580 to 676 in 3hrs!"
The problem I have with these claims is that they are half truths. While it is definitely true that you can raise your credit score very easily, you can't do it in 3 hours. These claims are designed to make you believe that only time can fix bad credit; in reality...nothing could be further from the truth.
While it does take some time to have your credit report updated, it's a far cry from being the only factor. Don't believe it? Well, just keep reading. Did you know that the only information which can remain on your credit report is not what is accurate...but what can be proved as accurate.
This is guaranteed by a consumer protection law known as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This is very important to you. For the following reasons.
It's important because any negative item on your credit report can only remain there if it is accurate and CAN BE PROVED AS SUCH under the guidelines of the FCRA. This fact comes with both good news and bad news for you. Here is the good news. Through the FCRA guidelines, your credit
score can most likely be improved significantly in a very short period of time with only a small amount of effort on your part. The bad news is that while the actual "work" will take very little of your time, it is crucial that you have good information on "how" to go about it.
This is the bad news: 9 out of 10 courses on fixing your credit will do nothing more than lead you into bottomless pits because they will provide you with what the industry refers to as "Boiler Plate" dispute letters. These form letters are usually laughed at by Credit Bureaus and creditors if you use them.
As the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has said, "Anything a Credit Repair Clinic can do for you legally, you can do for yourself at little or not cost"...the crucial element you need to guarantee succes is the latest inside techniques and procedures to get the results you need.
This involves strategies such as "Challenge of Procedure", "Constructive Notice", "Restrictive Endorsement" or "Proof of Contract" as well as many others.
Don't be intimidated by these fancy terms. They are really quite simple These are just titles used by the FTC to describe a method of communication you should use which exercises your consumer protection rights, gets the the results you want and raises your credit score.
Even more impressive, once you learn how simple it can be by doing it for yourself, you will find there is a fortune to be made by doing it for others.
